Devlog week 3 - Ryan King

Devlog week 3 – Ryan King

  • After conducting the first playtesting session of my first prototype, I then moved onto the next week with loads of feedback for me to further improve the animations for the character and the character design itself.
  • The playtesting was a great experience being able to sit down with someone and just play through the prototype I had set up and then question them to get the necessary feedback I need to continue the project. I got great feedback, the testers did really enjoy the character design of the robot and the reasoning behind the design choice, however the animation for walking showed there was a lot of work needed to be done, the animation was confusing and just not working so clearly, I need to work on that. I did get positive feedback for the idle and even a suggestion to improve it further.
  • When going on to the next prototype I knew what I needed to do, the walking animation didn’t really convey what I wanted it to, so I went back into photoshop to edit each of the frames, what was missing was the clear image that the robot was dragging itself to move around to do that I needed it to raise its arm more to clearly distinguish between it from dragging itself forward and just sliding.
  • To improve the idle, I really just got to add a blink to, so it has more movement in its face which was verry simple to edit in.
