Rocket Jumper (Placeholder name)

A simple platformer with movement mechanics based around propulsion.

Experience Goals:

  • Players will slowly get better at every section
  • Players skill will improve
  • Players will fall a lot and need to learn how to be more disciplined in their jumps

Design Goals:

  • To create a tall, visually pleasing game map.
  • To create a difficult but balanced movement mechanic.
  • To develop complex maps that keep the player engaged.

Game Mechanics:

  • A robot without legs that has a blaster in his that can propel himself in the opposite direction when he shoots it.
  • The robot will be unable to move left and right by walking

Special Hardware:

  • There is no special hardware
  • The game does not cover any intentional subject matters. It is simply a platformer with a robotic theme to it.

Dev Log:

Week of 17/09/2025:

We decided on the game that we wanted to develop and we assigned roles to everyone. We decided to make a challenging platformer game. Our inspiration for this idea was getting over it and team fortress 2.

The general premise of the game is that you play as a robot who is missing his legs. Using his blaster in his arm, he can shoot the ground below himself to launch himself in the opposite direction. Similar to rocket jumps in TF2. The goal is to climb to the top of the factory to get his legs.

We decided that we will all do level design while also specialising in a secondary area. Frankie is specialising in programming, Ryan is specialising in art and I am specialising in audio.

Over the week I started thinking about how I am going to do audio work. I decided that I will be going the way that sound effects were developed years ago. I will be recording sounds of different things I find around the world and putting them in the game as a sound effect. I have a few examples of ideas that I have formed so far for sound effects. They are as follows:

Running a pipe along a radiator: Charging sound effect.

Hitting the ground from a height: Metal hammer falling on metallic sheet.

Falling from a height: A very low speed fan
