Frankie Week 7 Devlog
This has been a long week for development with the game, during Wednesdays class we showcased our vertical slice of the game using Ryans section since it had its texturing and level design fully finished. We received a lot of feedback some of which has already been used, with the biggest example being implementing the ability to move the camera with the arrow keys to get a better view of where exactly you will be jumping towards without everything being a leap of faith.
Now for where the issues were, this week I had my biggest struggles with the project and it was setting up the jump animation and getting the character to properly flip. The big issue with the jump animation was that it simply just wouldn't play even though I had the transitions set up in unity and the code for it properly written. Jake had managed to help get it fixed, it had turned out the issues were due to loop time being enabled on one of the animations which caused the transition to break from idle to jumping.
Getting the characters sprite to flip was easy, but getting the arrow to flip properly was anything but. If the player faced the right it would work perfectly since thats how we had been working from the moment we got the character sprite set up, but when it faced left the on screen arrow sprite would point down if your mouse aimed up, would point left if your mouse was aimed to the right etc. I tried getting this fixed myself but I couldn't find a solution, I eventually had to get assistance from AI which after some back and forth with it managed to eventually get it sorted and working properly.
We still have a good amount of work to go but at the moment I am incredibly happy with the way the game is going for the most part.
